My Decision to go Cruelty-Free + Four Products I’m Currently Using
I’ve always been one to opt for cruelty-free products when the choice was in front of me, but I never really took the time to delve into animal-testing and what all it entails. I couldn’t sleep one night and somehow fell down the cruelty-free rabbit hole online. I think I researched for about three hours. It was mind-blowing seeing how many brands that I know and love weren’t on the cruelty-free list. I also found out that some brands claim to be cruelty-free, but sell their products in countries that require animal-testing by law! After I’d read just about everything I could possibly read on the topic, I made the decision to go completely cruelty-free. (Or at least try to!)
Let’s get real- I can’t afford to buy all new beauty/household products right now. To be practical (and economical), I’ve decided that I am going to use up what I have left of the products in our home, but any purchases from this point on will be cruelty-free! A majority of my beauty products are cruelty-free already. Some of the products I will have to swap out though are our toothpaste, my daily moisturizer, my shampoo and most of our household cleaners. I plan on doing a whole series of posts about cruelty-free alternatives to everyday beauty + household products so be on the lookout for those posts!
Cruelty-Free Products I’m Currently Using
Christophe Robin Purifying Scrub + Detangling Gelisse
I received this complimentary from Influenster and have fallen in love with it. I’d never heard of this brand before, but this hair duo has made a noticeable difference in the health of my hair. The scrub is so satisfying and my hair feels super clean and fresh after every shower. When I started researching cruelty-free brands, I went down the list to find brands that I had on-hand. When I saw that Christophe Robin was listed as cruelty-free, I fell even more in love!
Manna Kadar Champagne Charcoal Scrub
This exfoliating scrub came in my spring FabFitFun box. I was a little hesitant at first because I’m not one to regularly exfoliate, but once I started using it I haven’t been able to stop. The packaging itself got to me, then when I realized how beautiful it smelled I was hooked and I hadn’t even used it yet. It’s a gentle exfoliator, but I definitely noticed a difference in my skin afterward. I’m prone to dry skin year-round, but this body scrub has helped with that immensely! I actually just ran out the other day and plan on replacing it asap!
Ouai Leave-In Conditioner
I also got this in my spring FabFitFun box (kudos to them for sending out cruelty-free products!!). I’ve tried leave-in conditioners before, but never really noticed enough of a difference in my hair to continue using them. This one is different, aside from smelling wonderful it leaves my hair super soft and tangle-free straight out of the shower!
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Hand Soap
I picked one up on a whim at Walmart a few months ago because I’d heard/seen great things about the Mrs. Meyer’s brand. We have honeysuckle (in our kitchen) and peony (in our bathroom) and I love them both. I’m constantly washing my hands, especially now that we have Aria so I love the fact that their products are natural and cruelty-free! The hand soaps make my hands feel truly clean, smell great and double as a great accent piece for any space.
I have been consistently testing out products since my decision to go cruelty-free and have lots to share! I also started shopping with grove.co and plan on doing an in-depth review of all the products I’ve tried so far. Check back soon!
