22 Things I've Learned in the Last Year

I turned 22 on April 20, but unfortunately I didn't get to celebrate the day of. My grandpa passed away last week, so we spent a few days in Illinois to be with family.

After a family breakfast at iHop, I spent the rest of my birthday on a 15-hour car ride from Chicago back to Statesboro.

We stopped in some random town in Kentucky and roamed around the mall for a little while, then booked it to Nashville to see the famous Cupcake ATM. Seriously the coolest thing ever!

Because of the long car ride/no wifi, I didn't get the chance to post anything on my actual birthday (which is when I planned on publishing this post).

So here are 22 things I've learned in the last year:

Family is extremely important

Following your dreams is hard, but absolutely worth it

Don't take friendships for granted

You'd be surprised how much you can do when you push yourself

Moving away from your family takes a toll on you

Hard work really does pay off

When you find a guy that does everything to make sure you succeed, don't let him go

School becomes much more important when you're the one footing the bill

Save as much money as you possibly can

Comparing your life to others is counterproductive

Being grateful for what you have is much more satisfying than wanting what you don't

A job is a job- everyone has to start from somewhere

Being a dog mom is tough work

Blogging is a real business that takes real work to keep it up and running

Don't buy fruity drinks when you go out to eat, beer is cheaper and probably has more alcohol than that $12 margarita

Living out in the woods is actually amazing

Bubble baths are the best way to relax

Always bring your laptop when you travel

Dyeing your hair every month is NOT worth it

Melissa McCarthy is my new role model

Everything's better when it's monogrammed

Wine is better out of the bottle

Over the next few days, I will be elaborating on the things I've mentioned above so be sure to check back to get the inside scoop! Hopefully some of the lessons I've learned will help you out, too!
